8 Fantastic Audio Podcasts You Should Try πŸ”ŠπŸŽ§

Hello dear readers!

Thought I’d share some podcast shows that I have dedicated many an hour to (esp. while folding laundry/washing dishes…):

#1 Hello PhD

A podcast for scientists, and the people who love them. Hello PhD is hosted by two friends, (Joshua Hall and Daniel Arneman), who together faced multitudes of impossible decisions covering the highs and lows of graduate school and careers in science. With a relaxed, conversational style, their late-night conversations about life and the lab (grad school applications, research dos and don’ts, dissertations, job-hunting…) help ease the way for us to navigate these same hard questions. So grab a drink, bring your burning questions, and join in!

#2 Working Scientist

With a strong focus on supporting early career researchers working in academia and other sectors, Working Scientist is produced by the publishers of renowned international science journal Nature. It’s packed with interviews and advice from global industry experts on topics ranging from: how to drive your PhD and postdoc career, grant applications, working in industry vs academia, and more. Dive into issues relevant to today’s scientists.

#3 Not Overthinking

Not Overthinking on Apple Podcasts

Not Overthinking is a weekly podcast about happiness, creativity, and the human condition. Join two brothers, Ali and Taimur Abdaal, as they explore the important things to help us think, do and be better. Things like social interaction, lifestyle design, mental models… and why you should invest in a good kitchen bin! This is definitely one to listen to for eye-opening intellectual, yet fun and interesting chats.

#4 The Ezra Klein Show

The Ezra Klein Show on Apple Podcasts

From the co-founder of Vox, The Ezra Klein Show brings you far-reaching conversations about hard problems, big ideas, illuminating theories and cutting-edge research. Want to know about the moral philosophy of TV show The Good Place? What happens when work becomes an identity and capitalism becomes a religion? How the brains of master meditators change? This is the podcast for you. Winner of the 2020 Webby and People’s Voice awards for best interview podcast.

#5 The Ted Interview

TED Interview | Podcasts | TED

You may have heard of TED Talks, but have you heard of The TED Interview? Here, head of TED Chris Anderson speaks with some of the world’s most interesting people to dig into the provocative and powerful ideas of our time. The longer episodes allow an in-depth look into the thoughts and arguments of TED Talks speakers. I particularly enjoyed Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai on why educating girls changes everything and “Sapiens” author, historian and futurist Yuval Noah Harari reveals the real dangers ahead.

#6 Hello Internet

Hello Internet

YouTuber CGP Grey and journalist/educational YouTuber Dr. Brady Haran talk about YouTube, life, work and whatever else they feel like (tech, books, movies, etc.)… The dynamic between Grey and Brady makes for a very engaging and entertaining listen – I’m always eagerly awaiting the next episode!

#7 innerFrench Intermediate French Podcast

E05 Le nouveau Président français

For the Francophones and Francophiles out there, the innerFrench podcast is brilliant for building, maintaining and improving your French language skills. Intriguing subjects are covered, such as The Art of Living According to the Stoics and Should Inheritance be Abolished?, besides cultural topics like French or European?. The podcast pacing and intonation is brilliant in terms of being natural-yet-understable for the non-native listener. Transcripts of every episode are available. The creator Hugo also has a YouTube channel where you can find videos on French society, grammar and vocab, etc.

#8 Duolingo French Podcast

French Podcast Episodes - Duolingo

Another French language podcast I follow is Duolingo. Each self-contained episode is a fascinating and inspiring life story, narrated autobiographically. Begin with Episode 1: Le magicien des baguettes (The Baguette Magician) or why not try Episode 18: Surfer au SΓ©nΓ©gal (Surfing in Senegal)?

Hope I’ve helped introduce you to a new show you love! Let us know what podcasts you enjoy listening to in the comments! πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks, Raka! Hope you enjoy trying the podcasts 😊

Yes, I’m indeed a French language fan! Seems like you are too 😁
I like to watch French films, vlogs and listen to French music (besides podcasts)… I’m open to suggestions if you have any!

      1. Cool! Yes. My other approach back then was to read some comic books “le bande dessinΓ©e”..either japanese translated ones or the original french stories πŸ‘πŸ˜„
